Understanding that we live in a constantly changing world, UpSideRisks has modified our monthly report. From now on, each month we will focus on a relevant topic for risk management and analyze it in depth. In this way, we will have more tools to anticipate and know those relevant events that should capture our attention. We will begin by analyzing the risk of the use of tactical nuclear weapons in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

President Vladimir Putin has increasingly relied on nuclear threats in an attempt to avoid foreign intervention by signaling to the United States and NATO that he is committed to winning the war in Ukraine.

On September 21 he stated: «Our country also has different types of weapons. In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapons systems at our disposal.»

In this report we analyze the risk from 4 aspects: a) Possible scenarios, b) What are tactical nuclear weapons? c) What event could trigger the use of weapons? and d) What consequences could they generate?
